In Latin America controversial debates, disputes and struggles over the social, ecological, and political implications of an exacerbated nature exploitation for developmental ends, called “extractivism” have become part of the everyday in many parts of the region. The workshop focuses on such alternative approaches, debates and struggles that are currently taking place in different parts in Latin America under the term “post-extractivism”. The section thus can be considered as a platform for transregional learning between “South” and “North”.
The workshop focuses on such alternative approaches, debates and struggles that are currently taking place in different parts in Latin America under the term “post-extractivism”. The following questions will guide the discussion in the workshop: How does an alternative concept to a growth orientated development path beyond extractivism look like in Latin American? What practices and struggles from below complement current debates? And who are the agents of a transformation towards post-extractivism in Latin America?
The section thus can be considered as a platform for transregional learning between “South” and “North”. Thereby we deliberately focus on Latin American practices, experiences, alternative debates, and also constraints in order to broaden our perspectives and imaginations when thinking about counter-hegemonic movements, practices and emancipatory alternatives.
